Tell me what is broken
A short description is enough. Within one business day I will tell you what I think the problem is, roughly how long it takes, and whether you need me at all. Sometimes the honest answer is no.
Let’s talk about your infrastructure
Email is the only channel, and it reaches me directly, not a shared inbox. A rough description is fine; a sentence is enough to start. If your organisation needs an NDA, a data processing agreement or a supplier questionnaire first, say so, and I will deal with it before we discuss details. If something is happening right now, put “urgent” in the subject line. I read those first.
Worth including
- What triggered this, in a sentence or two
- Roughly how many servers, and which distributions or clouds
- Your timeline, and any hard deadline
- Who on your side will own the result after handover
Not required
- A formal RFP. If you have one, I will answer it
- An NDA to start. If you need one, I will sign yours or send mine
- A budget figure. The first review has a fixed price, and larger work is quoted in writing
- A tidy problem statement. A rough description is fine
What happens next
I read it and reply within one business day with what I think the problem is, roughly how long it takes, and whether you need me at all. Sometimes a two-hour conversation solves it, or another consultant is a better fit. If so, I will say so rather than stretch to fit the work.
